Life is sooooooooooooo busy as a working momma of THREE kids... but, life is also full of so many "little" things...you know, those simple pleasures that really bring so much joy... I'm mostly thinking of the dopey things that my kids say and do that make me laugh... but also the little adventures we have or the day trips that we do... you think you will remember them all, but those memories really do fade over time. I am hoping to sit down once a month (ideally, once a week, but being that I hardly manage one decent shower a week, we'll aim for once a month for now! LOL) to detail those quotable quotes or beautiful little actions (or those not so much) as well as our family activities. I hope you enjoy!! :)

Snow-body Knows... Where is the SNOW??!

Patrick is the very definition of a snowman... he lives, he breathes, he dreams, he can even hear the SLIGHTEST whisper of impending snow...  He is the first to remember a prediction when he wakes up and EAGERLY flicks open his blinds to see what fate has brought!  Well, this year, to say the least, he has been bitterly disappointed!!  But, flash back two years ago, and he was in HEAVEN (even though he wasn't at the age to realize that a wild winter could bring the excitement of multiple  SNOW DAYs off from school!).
From December 2009 through February 2010, when the Blizzard of 2010 hit, we were inundated with record breaking snow (lucky for us, we had just moved into our "new" house and although the boys were eager to "help" clear the snow, let's just say it was a sweet gesture and leave it at that!).  We had the best time during the blizzard (aside from the chore that is cleaning the driveway and sidewalks) because we were actually able to burrow through the snow and create tunnels and a little snow fort!!  Patrick was in heaven for sure and being that that winter was really the first he remembers, it set the bar just a bit high! :)
Ryan on the other hand, gets caught up in Patrick's excitement (we all do, it is quite contagious)... eagerly getting all decked out to go and play in the snow, dutifully, of course, posing for pictures, and then quickly realizing (especially if it is actually SNOWING) that the flaky white stuff is a little too cold for his tastes!
Patrick and Ryan "measuring" snow
This year???  QUITE the disappointment... even John and I would have to agree!!  There hasn't even been enough to properly introduce the Little Rose to the snow to see what SHE makes of it! :(  We got one afternoon snow (and Patrick BEGGED me to be able to play out in it, even though it was almost dark when we got home) and a small dusting one weekend... that has been the extent of it!!  Ryan & John even made the COOLEST snow ruler to measure snowfall at Ryan's Preschool Dad's Night (did they jinx it?) this year.  Patrick and Ryan got bundled up and went out, but even Patrick couldn't get too excited as it was an icy snow, there wasn't much of it, and he couldn't really DO anything with it... he keeps talking about the "Snowman Parts" that Santa brought them... plastic "coal" eyes, a "carrot" nose, a hat & buttons... I'm thinking SANTA jinxed it... that he is DYING to use, but the snow hasn't been right type.
So, alas, we wait.  The latest rumor is that the Farmer's Almanac is predicting snow for March... unless that almanac, which has made many solid predications, comes through for us, this year has been a BUST where the snow is concerned!!  Stay tuned... we are off to the park to enjoy another unseasonably warm, February day!!  LOL

We interrupt this snow event to organize the scarf and hat bin! LOL

The Little Rose Turns ONE! Say it isn't so....

Party prep for the big ONE started well in advance of the set date of 01/07/12!!  Godmommy Chrissy and I had been plotting and planning, deciding to venture into FONDANT territory (a first for us!).  The cake took "only" about four hours to do, made QUITE the mess of my kitchen, but was totally a labor of love well worth it!!
The day had started out like any other for Katy... that's why it came as such a SHOCK to her system to wake from her nap and have a house FULL of people who wanted to dote on her!!  She was NOT impressed (thus launching her first bout with stranger anxiety)!

She did eventually unglue from John and I, but for only short bursts of time!  Luckily our family is so girl-starved that the sweet little Rose can do no wrong, really!

The best part of her party, as with any family milestones, was that it was such a great opportunity to catch up with our extended family.  Even though a most of those who came live locally, it is so hard to keep up with everyone given the demands of everyday life!! A majority of time was spent casually hanging out while, of course, munching on too much food.  I, well-raised in true Italian fashion, had made (and, yes, ordered, too... can't do it all!) entirely too much food... in addition to the two three foot long subs, I'd made several appetizers and a HUGE vat of Mac n' Cheese... worried that it wouldn't be enough, John picked up some wings at BJs! :)
We were eating all of the above for the next week... I'm pretty sure we'd be happy if we never saw a single noodle of mac n' cheese or a deli sub again! ;)  But I digress...  We got to the traditional cake time (Chrissy and I had made Katy her own little cake) and although she had posed
for several pictures quite willingly, she was in NO mood to make a mess of herself in front of a large group (we did, finally, get around to letting her smosh and smash a cupcake on video... think it was actually a couple days AFTER her birthday in the privacy of just us!)... so we moved on to presents...  In true girl-starved fashion, the theme of gifts from the family seemed to be ANYTHING girlie... from, of course, absolutely adorable dresses, to even her own purple cell phone... it was fun to unwrap them all and Katy was quite content since she had mommy and daddy right there with her!
Nathan wanted to help
move things along...
A picture says 1,000 words...
who LOVES the girlie stuff?  Who,
after a year, is over it??! ;)

Post-party bliss... off for year two!
